HJM Asia Law & Co. LLC and Canadian Chamber of Commerce (Singapore)
Bio
Caroline Berube, a Canadian-trained lawyer from McGill Law School, moved to Asia in 1998 and worked in Singapore, Thailand, and China, becoming the go-to source for SMEs, PE firms and banks (investing in their clients) wanting to reduce their costs, tap the Asian market, and successfully navigate the Asian legal landscape.
Caroline has an established reputation in the international business community as an entrepreneur of five startups (consulting, trading, tech platform, manufacturing and services — with two sold), an expert adviser on M&A cross border transactions, technology transfer, and intellectual property matters.
In 2016, she formed Procosec Asia, an innovative company providing secretarial, accounting, and compliance services for SMEs on an automated platform as a one-stop shop.
Caroline is an active member of the international business community sitting on the board of Savaria listed in Toronto (sis.to) and private companies, including the Audemars Piguet Board of Directors in China and Taiwan.
Caroline is currently the president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and Chairman of the Board. Caroline is also co-chair of the China Working Group of the International Bar Association and appointed legal counsel of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
In 2015, Caroline was named a Young Global Leader under 40 by the World Economic Forum. She was appointed in May 2023 to the Advisory Group of the WEF, YGL. She is also the compliance officer of her YPO Chapter (Asean United).
Caroline is a regular speaker at international conferences and is a visiting professor at Bocconi University and Assas International Law School on IP and M&A in Tech.
She authored the practical book Doing Business in China, published in French and English by Lexis Nexis, and has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, including Bloomberg, The Straits Times, Business Times, Les Affaires and La Presse.
Her strong business mindset, coupled with rigorous legal training, her extensive business international network — built over 25 years in Asia — and her flexibility and curiosity, having worked and lived in four different countries in two developing continents, brings a real practical value to companies.
