MGen Angelito M. De Leon (Rtd.)
MGen Angelito M. De Leon (Rtd.) entered the Philippine Military Academy in 1980 and was able to graduate as a member of the PMA Maharlika Class of 1984 where he also obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree.
After his graduation from the PMA and being commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Philippine Army, his first assignment was in the 37th Infantry Battalion, a unit of the 2nd Infantry Division deployed in various provinces in Mindanao. He held various positions in that battalion – from platoon leader, company commander, and battalion operations officer. In 1990, he was later transferred to the Headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID), Philippine Army in Awang, Dinaig, Maguindanao where he held various positions in the field of operations of 6ID. As an artillery officer, he was designated as Battery Commander and Operations Officer of the 12th Field Artillery Battalion deployed in Maguindanao.
As he went up the ladder of the military organization, his other various significant command and staff positions were the following: Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations AC3 and Intelligence AC2 of the Visayas Command, AFP; Executive Assistant to the Vice Chief of Staff and The Deputy Chief of Staff, AFP; Battalion Commander of the 41st Infantry Battalion of the 5th Infantry Division deployed in Abra Province; Unified Command Staff for Operations U3 of the Southern Luzon Command; Secretary Army General Staff, HPA and Secretary Joint Staff, GHQ; Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans G5 and Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations G3 of the Philippine Army and Commander 1001stBrigade, 10th Infantry Division, PA deployed in Compostela Valley; Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, AFP and finally, Commander 7thInfantry Division, Philippine Army. He retired from military service in October of 2017. After his retirement, he became a member of the Board of Trustees of the AFP Savings and Loan Association, Incorporated (AFPSLAI) until May 25 2024. He was appointed as the Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs of the Department of National Defense in June 2018 up to July 2022. He took oath as the Undersecretary for Capability Assessment and Development last August 01 2022 and was designated as Acting Undersecretary of National Defense from February 07, 2023 to July 24, 2023.
He has also undergone various military and civilian schoolings, both local and foreign, significant of which are the following: Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Training and Doctrine Command Philippine Army; Field Artillery Officer Advance Course in US Army Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, USA; Command and General Staff Course at the AFP Command and General Staff College; Masters in Public Administration at the National College of Business and Arts Manila; Professional Industrial Security Management (Certified Security Professional) at the Philippine Society for Industrial Security and the Professionals Directors Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
In recognition of his various accomplishments, he was conferred the following awards and commendations both from the AFP and various civilian institutions and local government units: Philippine Legion of Honor Degree of Commander, 7 Distinguished Service Stars; Gawad sa Kaunlaran Medal; 2 Bronze Cross Medals; 16 Military Merit Medals; 4 Military Commendation Medals; Silver Wing Medal; Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao Anti-Dissidence Campaign Medal and Ribbons; Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Operation Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation Badge and People Power Revolution Ribbons; Numerous Letters of Commendation from various AFP Commanders, Certificates of Appreciation and Resolutions of Commendation from Local Government Units, Agencies, and Civil Society Organizations.
