Rea G. Oreta
Minister and Consul General Rea Oreta arrived in Ottawa on 20 April 2023. Prior to her assignment in Ottawa, she served as Director for the Canada Division of the DFA’s Office of American Affairs.
Before that, she served two full stints at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles (2015-2021) and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait (2006-2012) as Consul and Third Secretary and Vice Consul, respectively.
She served in various capacities in the DFA including as Special Assistant of the Undersecretary for Strategic Communications and Research (USCR) in 2021; Assistant Director for the United States and eventually Director for South America and Multilateral Affairs in OAA in 2013-2015; Principal Assistant then Acting Director for the Pacific and concurrently for Northeast Asia in the Office of Asia Pacific Affairs (ASPAC) in 2005; and desk assistant for Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the Office of Middle East and Africa Affairs (OMEAA) in 1999-2004.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Service with honors from the Lyceum of the Philippines and majored in International Trade. She earned units in Master of Arts Degree in Political Studies from De La Salle University with area focus on International Relations in 2013-2014. She joined the DFA in 1999 as desk assistant and advanced to the foreign service corps in 2004.
Ms. Oreta is a career member of the Philippine Foreign Service holding the rank of Career Minister.
