In light of Prime Minister Harper’s recent and upcoming visits to China Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, and numerous trips by his cabinet to the region, the government is clearly signaling the importance of Asia for Canada. Asia looms large in many of the major policy issues facing the country, including trade agreements, infrastructure, energy exports, labour market needs, and the future of manufacturing. Is Ottawa up to the challenge? What about the provinces? Are Canadians ready to embrace closer ties with Asian countries? Yuen Pau Woo will launch the results of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s 2012 National Opinion Poll – Canada Views on Asia at this event. He will also report on the National Conversation on Asia – an initiative of the Foundation to get Canadians to take more seriously the rise of Asia and its implications for the world. Hosted by the Economic Club of Canada, this will be held at the Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa from 11:45am to 1:30pm on Monday, April 23, 2012. For more details and registration, click here.
