How does the concept of trust relate to confidence and empathy in East Asian security? This invite-only discussion with Dr. David Welch, Professor of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and Dr. Paul Evans, Professor at the UBC Institute of Asian Research, will examine some of the underlying reasons for the lack of trust in East Asian relations and how this informs our understanding of “cooperative security”. The discussion will also look at the most productive ways of understanding the evolving Asia-Pacific security order.
