VANCOUVER, BC – December 10, 2018 – The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Reeves will be joining APF Canada as Vice-President, Research, effective Monday, January 7, 2019.
Formerly the Director of Asian Studies at the United States Army War College (AWC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Dr. Reeves’ extensive career as a researcher, analyst, instructor, and senior strategist has largely focused on statecraft and traditional and non-traditional security issues in the Asia Pacific.
Dr. Reeves has more than 15 years experience living and working in Asia, including as an Associate Professor with the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in the U.S., as a Research Fellow with Griffith University in Australia, and as a University Instructor at Peking University in China. He has also worked with the UN’s Development Program and World Wildlife Foundation in Beijing, and as a researcher with the London School of Economics and Political Science's Asia Research Centre in the U.K.
“Jeff will bring a unique perspective, specialist knowledge, and a rich skillset to this senior role at the Foundation,” said APF Canada President and CEO, Stewart Beck. “In addition to overseeing our excellent research team, he will take a lead in defining our future strategic vision and in developing a program of applied research that is relevant and actionable for Canada and Canadian business in the context of today’s shifting global economy.”
In his most recent role at AWC, Dr. Reeves managed course content related to Asian security, society, politics, and economics for AWC’s Department of National Security and Strategy (DNSS), conducted research, hosted workshops and dialogues, and taught advanced courses on Asian security. While at DNSS, Dr. Reeves was also a primary point of contact for bilateral relations between the US Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
“There is a huge amount of opportunity – across all sectors – for Canada to increase engagement with states throughout the Asia region,” said Dr. Reeves. “Such engagement is essential for Canada’s economic and foreign policy diversification. No organization or foundation is better positioned to help the Canadian government, Canadian firms, and Canadians to engage with Asia than APF Canada. I’m so honoured to be a part of the Foundation and to help with its mission.”
