The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is engaged with partners both in Canada and across the Asia Pacific. These partnerships enable us to widen our networks, inform our research, and establish ourselves as the primary resource for Canada-Asia research and policy advice.

Canada-ASEAN Business Council

Established in 2012 and headquartered in Singapore, the Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) is the voice of the Canadian private sector in Southeast Asia. Its mission is to grow the trade and investment relationship between Canada and ASEAN. 

In June 2024, APF Canada and CABC signed a three-year MOU to collaborate on research, events, and other initiatives related to Canada-ASEAN engagement.

Chile Pacific Foundation

Since its founding in 1994, the Chile Pacific Foundation (Fundación Chilena del Pacífico) has played an important role in advocating for Chile's free trade projection towards Asia Pacific markets. The Foundation has been proactive in promoting a broad array of initiatives that aim to foster Chile's economic and overall integration with Pacific economies.

Located in Chile's capital of Santiago, the Foundation, which also holds the Chilean secretariat for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), works in close collaboration with the public sector through a number of government agencies, most notably Chile's Undersecretary of International Economic Affairs (Subrei).

Korea Artificial Intelligence Ethics Association

The Korea Artificial Intelligence Ethics Association (KAIEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the safe and ethical implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) around the world. The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) signed a memorandum of understanding with KAIEA to support co-operation in AI and artificial intelligence ethics projects between South Korea and Canada on October 5, 2020.

Through this partnership, APF Canada and KAIEA have a common purpose of promoting bilateral and multilateral co-operation in AI governance, and a commitment to close joint project and joint research on AI ethics. Both organizations will actively co-operate in activities such as information exchange and mutual promotion. In particular, the two organizations will jointly promote the establishment and standardization of global AI ethics guidelines with international organizations such as the United Nations, jointly hold international conferences and seminars on AI and AI ethics, and discuss both countries’ policy activities on AI ethics.

National Bureau of Asian Research (U.S.A.)

APF Canada has recently partnered with the U.S.-based National Bureau of Asian Research’s Asia Policy journal as a content and distribution partner. Asia Policy is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal presenting policy-relevant academic research on the Asia Pacific that draws clear and concise conclusions useful to today’s policy-makers. The journal is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October. As a consortium partner, APF Canada will contribute to the Asia Policy editorial board and advisory committee.

Based in Seattle, Washington, with a branch office in Washington, D.C., the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) has developed a reputation as a global go-to think tank on Asia policy. As a nonpartisan organization, NBR has cultivated relationships for more than 30 years with top specialists and the highest-level decision-makers in the Executive Branch and Congress of the U.S. federal government.

Observer Research Foundation

The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) is India's largest independent, non-profit, public policy think-tank set up with the objective of aiding and informing policies for a sustainable and strong India in a prosperous and equitable world. ORF's aim is to encourage voices from all quarters, geographies, and genders, including those that fall in and those that question dominant narratives. It is this plurality of thought and voice – in a country of more than one billion individuals – that ORF seeks to carry abroad, while simultaneously bringing contemporary global debates to India.

ORF pursues these goals by providing informed and varied perspectives, conducting in-depth research, and curating stimulating discussions. The research activities of ORF cover a wide range of disciplines, including strategic studies, economy and growth, technology and media, energy, climate change and sustainable development, and political economy.

Universities Canada

Universities Canada is a membership organization providing Canadian university presidents with a unified voice for higher education, research and innovation. Universities Canada advocates for Canadian universities at the federal level, provides a forum for university leaders to share ideas and address challenges in higher education, supports students by providing online information on university study and offering scholarships on behalf of private sector companies, and fosters collaboration among universities and governments, the private sector, communities and international partners to help build a better world.

APF Canada and Universities Canada are the co-hosts of the Canada-in-Asia Conference.
