The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening Canada’s relations with Asia. We are pleased to launch our new Indo-Pacific Young Leaders Program – an initiative to deepen Canadian engagement with the Indo-Pacific through the exchange of ideas, experiences, and collaboration with key Canadian stakeholders.
About the Program:
The Indo-Pacific Young Leaders Program is an important part of APF Canada’s broader effort to strengthen Canada’s engagement, relevance, and networks in the region, with funding support provided by the Government of Canada. The program is aimed specifically at fostering connections with the next generation of leaders in the Indo-Pacific region by providing them with the opportunity to:
- Engage in a one-week familiarization visit to Canada; participants will meet with government officials, industry leaders, and experts to learn about Canada’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific and discuss topics such as regional security, innovation, emerging technology, space, energy security, sustainable development, and other issues.
- Participate (on a case-by-case basis) in APF Canada events held in the Indo-Pacific region, such as the Canada in Asia Conference in Singapore or similar events.
- Attend virtual monthly briefings on topics relevant to Canada and its engagement with the Indo-Pacific, including those identified in Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Duration and Commitment:
The program will last approximately one year, with participants expected to commit to monthly virtual sessions (approximately one hour each) and a one-week learning tour of Canada (summer 2025, dates TBC). There may be additional opportunities to participate in other APF-Canada-related regional events on a case-by-case basis. The trip to Canada and participation in these other events will be funded.
Eligibility:
We invite applications from early- and mid-career professionals between the ages of 25-40 from the following jurisdictions: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in issues such as international relations, policy, business, innovation, and sustainable development, as well as their interest in deepening their engagement with Canada.

We are currently seeking applications from researchers and scholars based in the Indo-Pacific to serve as Fellows in APF Canada’s Indo-Pacific Regional Research Program. This program is designed to deepen partnerships and engagement between Canada and countries in the Indo-Pacific region, contribute to Canadian knowledge about the region, and build trust and support regional networks.
About the Program:
The Indo-Pacific Regional Research Program is part of APF Canada’s new Asia-based programming, with funding support provided by the Government of Canada. Scholars selected under this program will produce and publish research on topics such as regional security issues, sustainable development, economic security and supply chain resilience, emerging technologies and innovation, energy security and the green economy, among other areas relevant to Canada’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific. Fellows will also participate in regional and Canadian events and workshops, contributing to the strengthening of Canada-Asia research networks.
Duration and Commitment:
The fellowship is a one-year position with a commitment of 10 hours per week, with the possibility of extension. The program includes a funding grant for the duration of the fellowship (the amount of the grant will vary depending on the location).
Eligibility:
This initial call for applications is open to researchers from the following Indo-Pacific jurisdictions: India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. International Relations, Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, etc.)
- At least five years of research experience in relevant areas.
- A part-time or full-time affiliation with a recognized educational institution, policy think-tank, or foundation

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is an independent, not-for-profit organization focused on Canada’s relations with Asia. Our mission is to be Canada’s catalyst for engagement with Asia and Asia’s bridge to Canada. APF Canada is dedicated to strengthening ties between Canada and Asia through its research, education, and convening activities, such as the Canada-in-Asia Conference series, our Women’s Business Missions to Asia, and the APEC-Canada Business Advisory Council.
APF Canada is seeking a dynamic and experienced Regional Director, Singapore. The Regional Director will play a pivotal role in representing APF Canada at key events and meetings, developing strategic partnerships, and co-ordinating outreach and communication efforts to raise the profile of APF Canada in the region. This role focuses primarily on Southeast Asia and aims to deepen Canada's engagement and participation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other relevant Asia Pacific organizations and networks.

Major Responsibilities
Representation and Outreach:
- Represent APF Canada at key events, meetings, and forums in Southeast Asia
- Communicate APF Canada's mission and goals to stakeholders in the region
- Coordinate outreach and communication efforts to raise APF Canada's profile in the region
Partnership Development:
- Develop and maintain partnerships with government, business, and civil society institutions to enhance Canada's engagement with Asia
- Collaborate with ASEAN and other regional organizations to deepen mutual understanding and engagement
Support Canada in Asia Conference (CIAC) and Canadian participation in networks:
- Facilitate Canadian participation in Asia Pacific networks and key events
- Promote and support Canadian initiatives and interests in Southeast Asia
- Identify potential speakers and thought leaders for CIAC
- Build partnerships and generate support for CIAC
- Contribute to CIAC organization and planning
- Contribute to development of content and themes for CIAC
Research and Programming:
- Support APF Canada’s research initiatives and programming in Southeast Asia
- Contribute to the development of Asia Regional Office research agenda and projects
Office Management:
- Oversee the management of the Singapore office, including administrative and operational functions
- Ensure effective financial management and budgeting for the office
- Manage services and contracts to support office operations
Desired Skills and Abilities
Successful applicants will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Minimum of ten years of experience in government, business, or foundations with a focus on Asia
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strategic partnerships
- Experience in representation and advocacy at high-profile events
- Experience in business development, preferably in media, events, or think tank environments
- Experience leading cross-functional teams
- Experience working in a matrix structure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong networking abilities in Asia, particularly in Southeast Asia
- Understanding of Canada’s priorities and engagement in Asia, including trade, investment, and diplomacy
- Understanding of the operating environments in Asia
- Demonstrated network of contacts in Asia (government, civil society, business)
- Demonstrated understanding of and interest in international affairs, particularly concerning the Indo-Pacific region
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French and/or in a major Asian language is an asset
Eligibility
Candidate preferably has an Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, including International Relations, Economics, or related disciplines, or an equivalent mix of training and experience.
