General Carsten Breuer, Germany’s Chief of Defence, joined APF Canada on February 7, 2025, for an in-person discussion on strategic relations between Canada and Germany and pressing global security threats.
In his opening remarks and fireside chat with APF Canada Vice-President Research & Strategy Vina Nadjibulla, General Breuer highlighted the need to build on Canada and Germany's shared security interests and safeguard the rules-based international order.
With ongoing global security developments —including Russia's invasion of Ukraine in Europe, growing geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific, and the re-election of President Trump— General Breuer offered a unique perspective on co-operation, global security alignment, and strategic military priorities. He also emphasised the need for Germany to think more deeply about its responsibilities to both Europe and the global theatre, and to learn from Canada as a 'nation of three oceans.'
