Paul Burke, Research Fellow with the Australian National University, will present ‘Rising Asia: Energy and Carbon Implications’ at an APF Canada Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, October 12 from 12:00 - 1:00pm. The Asian Century will see a substantial reorientation of global economic activity and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions toward Asia. Leapfrogging to low-carbon energy sources on the upper rungs of the energy ladder (nuclear power, modern renewables) is one route via which Asian countries can reduce the magnitudes of their expected upswings in CO2 emissions. There is a role for developed countries to provide increased financial and technological assistance to developing countries to improve the ability of these countries to achieve carbon-reducing energy sector leapfrogging.
