The Asia Pacific Foundation invites you to join Cleo Paskal, Associate Fellow at Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs) as she discusses how Oceania is changing and what it means for Canada.
With increasing global multipolarity, the 14 member states of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) are being seen as substantially more pivotal than ever before. Covering almost 1/6th of the planet's surface, the Pacific island countries occupy a highly strategic and economically important zone between the Americas and Asia. Canada has very limited presence in Pacific island countries, however, Canada is an Indo-Pacific country and, as Canadian economic and political focus increasingly looks west, understanding the region becomes much more important.
