Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Chair, the Hon. David L. Emerson, and APF Canada’s Vice-Chair, Marie-Lucie Morin, were appointed today as Independent Directors to the Board of Deloitte Canada, one of Canada's leading professional services firms. A third appointee, the Hon. Michael Wilson, a Canadian diplomat, politician and business leader, was also appointed to Deloitte’s Board as an Independent Director.
Effective November 30, 2017, the appointment of Independent Directors marks a first for the Canadian firm as a departure from its long-standing governance model.

David L. Emerson, P.C., O.B.C. is a corporate director and public policy advisor. Nationally, he has held senior positions with the Government of Canada, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Industry, and Minister of International Trade with responsibility for the Asia Pacific Gateway Initiative and the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
He was President and CEO of Canfor Corporation; President and CEO of the Vancouver International Airport Authority; and, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Western Bank. In February 2017, he was named the Province of British Columbia’s Trade Envoy to the United States. Mr. Emerson is a member of the Privy Council of Canada and a recipient of the Order of British Columbia.
Marie-Lucie Morin was Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank from 2010 to 2013. Before joining the World Bank, she pursued a 30-year career in Canada’s Federal Public Service and was appointed National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and Associate Secretary to the Cabinet in 2008. Previously she served as Deputy Minister for International Trade and as Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During the earlier years of her career with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada), Ms. Morin completed assignments in San Francisco, Jakarta, London, and Moscow. In 1997, she was appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Iceland. She was awarded the Governor General’s 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal and was named Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 2012. In 2016, she became a member of the Order of Canada.
